The Elliott Chorale is named to honour professor emeritus Carleton Elliott (1928-2003), who taught at Mount 星空传媒 1951-1993 and founded and led the original Conservatory Chorale for several decades.
The Elliott Chorale is an auditioned treble-voice chamber choir. Members have an avid interest in and enthusiasm for choral singing and are expected to actively grow their skills through sight-reading and individual practice. The ensemble's repertoire is challenging and diverse, with a focus on new and Canadian music.
In addition to performing concerts each term on campus, the Chorale sings at university and community events and at concert venues around the Maritimes. Special events like retreats, choir dinners, and other social activities enhance our ability to work together, fostering mutual respect and understanding.

Elliott Chorale Auditions
Are you interested in growing as a singer through exciting and challenging treble voice repertoire? Consider auditioning for Elliott Chorale! Auditions are not meant to be intimidating 鈥 they are an opportunity for Dr. Galway to get to know your voice and place you in the ensemble that suits you best.
To sign up for an audition:

- Prepare for the audition using the instructions below.
- Arrive at Dr. Galway鈥檚 office (upstairs in the MYB Conservatory, room 226) about 5-10 minutes before your scheduled audition time.
What to Expect:
Each audition will take about 5-7 minutes and will consist of the following:
a) A vocal range check: A major scale (sung a cappella, at a comfortable volume) on an open vowel (鈥渁h鈥 or similar).
- Start at the middle of your register (usually around G4) and sing down to the lowest note you can comfortably sing.
- Then, starting from G4, sing up stepwise as high as you can comfortably sing, and sing back down to G4.
b) Ear tests: You will be asked to perform selected exercises including:
- Clapbacks (Hear a rhythm and clap it back)
- Singbacks (Hear an interval, sing it back)
- Identifying notes in a chord (Identify chord tones in either a broken or solid chord).
- Vowel matching exercises (Dr. G sings a vowel, you match it)
c) Quick-study (sight-reading): You will be given a short passage to sight-sing during the audition 鈥 quick-study examples will be available about 10 minutes before the lesson if you鈥檇 like to look it over.
d) Prepared choral score: You will be asked to sing an excerpt from a piece of repertoire for the upcoming season ( and ). Please choose your usual choral part (Soprano, Second Soprano or Alto) and practice before the audition. You will be asked to sing your part without assistance from the piano during the audition (starting pitches will be given).
Please do your best to prepare your part with accurate pitches/tuning, appropriate dynamics, articulation and phrasing.
e) Short vocal piece of choice: Singers will prepare and sing a short selection from their vocal repertoire (no accompanist needed!) Examples: a folk song or an excerpt from an art song or aria (no recit).
PLEASE NOTE: Singers may be asked to attend a blend rehearsal (Tuesday, September 8 at 4:00 pm) before the roster is finalized.
